The Frames and Gilding Studio

Main Building

al. 3 Maja 1, Kraków

tel. (48-12) 295 55 86

The studio conserves antique painting frames from all branches of the National Museum. It is also responsible for objects made of wood and coated with gold and silver leaf, metal, and gilding bronze. We also carry out woodcarving work (carving of ornamentation), and make gypsum and stucco casts. We build new frames on the basis of old designs and restore utility art objects to their original condition.

The studio also performs essential conservation work on items from the Department of Modern Polish Painting and Sculpture, the Department of Prints, Drawings and Watercolours, the Jan Matejko House, the Stanisław Wyspiański Museum in the Szołayski House, and the Józef Mehoffer House.
