The Library of the National Museum in Cracow is a specialist library which collects and lends out Polish and foreign literature published after 1800 and in some way associated with the Museum's collections or its activities (art, material culture, conservation, and museology).
The Library has existed in its present form since the 1950s though its origins can be traced back to the 1880s.
At the end of 2008 the Library's collection consisted of more than 118,000 volumes of books and magazines. The collection, part of which is on loan to various departments of the Museum, is mainly used for research purposes by museum staff.
